Troubleshoot: voice quality / latency
When the AI sounds robotic, choppy, or has long silences. Fix steps.
01
Check 1 — Voice tuning sliders
- At /assistants → click your agent → Voice + personality.
- **Stability**: 0.3-0.5 = expressive (recommended). 0.7+ = robotic.
- **Style**: 0.5-0.7 = personality. 0 = monotone.
- **Speed**: 1.0 default. 0.95 = slightly slower (better for older callers).
02
Check 2 — Latency
- End-of-utterance silence too long? Reduce 'silence threshold' in advanced settings.
- Conversation lag? Confirm Anthropic API key is set platform-wide (Admin → Secrets).
03
Check 3 — Voice choice
- If a specific voice sounds bad, try another. Bill, Charlie, Sarah, Adam are reliable.
- Some voices are paid-tier on ElevenLabs — confirm yours is included.
04
Check 4 — Audio cutoffs
- AI talks over the caller? Increase 'interruption sensitivity' (lower number = AI waits more).
- Caller can't get a word in? Lower your agent's max-tokens — shorter responses = faster turn-taking.
05
Check 5 — Network
- Caller on poor connection = always sounds bad regardless of our setup.
- Check the call's reported jitter + packet loss in the call detail page.
